Chatting with Diana Abu-Jaber
Accomplished at creating sensory worlds in adult fiction and nonfiction, with her forthcoming novel, Diana Abu-Jaber enters a place new even to her: young adult fiction. She discusses this current project, an excerpt of which was first published at WritersDojo.org, and lots more in a recent conversation with Dojo Fiction Editor Kristin Thiel. Abu-Jaber is the author of Crescent, which was awarded the 2004 PEN Center USA Award for Literary Fiction and the Before Columbus Foundation’s American Book Award, and was named one of the twenty best novels of 2003 by the Christian Science Monitor. Arabian Jazz won the 1994 Oregon Book Award and was nominated for the PEN/Faulkner Award, and Origin is a new thriller that will delight new fans and surprise long-term ones. She teaches at Portland State University and divides her time between Portland and Miami. Click to play (26:47)
